Unlikely Visitors at Harmony Hollow

Our adventures continue!

We got a message from Ranger Kevin letting us know that at least four cows were spotted in the conservation area. The Spur Cross trail cam caught them taking a break at the desert oasis earlier in the day.

The little stinkers went out the gate from the ranch. Arizona is a state where you don’t have to fence your livestock in, rather, property owners have to fence them out! With a large property border, and part of it being a creek, that is not something that is an option.

We didn’t mind the visit, as it keeps life exciting around here. I’d make a joke that at least they stuck to the trail and didn’t go bushwhacking, but we’re told that they can wreak havoc on soft trails. Not to mention the amount of poop they leave behind!

Of course, we couldn’t resist the opportunity to get in on the action and hopped in the car to go cow spotting. We did find them, heading in the wrong direction! I wouldn’t have minded if they’d stuck around to eat some of the overgrown invasive grasses.

The rancher eventually got them rounded up and back where they belonged. It must have been quite an operation, as there were horseshoe tracks all over the place and cow paddies galore.
