Dief to the Rescue!

We like to visit Harmony Hollow most days of the week. There’s not too much going on with the house project but it’s so relaxing to walk around and dream.

When we bought the place we knew that part of the house’s restoration would entail a new septic tank, and whew! Just like everything else, what an ordeal that is turning into!

We’re on our second set of test digs and hit water again! While you might think it’s a good thing, to get water at about 8-12ft in the middle of the desert, it isn’t when you’re trying to find a place for your leech field!

I don’t know what it is about an open hole, but you have to look into it. I always seem to have my head down looking for “treasure” but this time I spied a Gila monster, stranded in the bottom.

My heart sank and we didn’t know what to do. We high-tailed it out of there to get to cell signal and did what anyone would do… We called Dief.

We only wanted a resource to call, but he said he’d be out the next day. But, in typical Dief fashion, he couldn’t wait, and sprung into action. After work at his Phoenix Rock Gym, at 11:00 p.m., he grabbed his ladder and got the job done.

One of Dief’s many hobbies and good deeds is working with the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center, which rescues and rehabs wildlife who have been displaced, injured, or abandoned. He’s released some of their rescues at Harmony Hollow, where they can return to their natural habitat after rehabbing.

Dief’s also a fantastic blacksmith at his Desert Rat Forge shop and we hope to have him do some custom metal work at Harmony Hollow.

You should check out Our Desert Nest, which is his own unique home build.
